(Oakland) Riverside girls golf coach Mitch Rice is optimistic about the year ahead.
Addi Brink and McKenna Sick each return after making it to the second round of regionals last year. “Addi Brink is a sophomore and McKenna Sick is a senior and then we also have returning Kia Meek. I really am excited about those three and the veteran leadership that they’ll bring to the team and continue lowering their scores. Then we have three or four freshmen and sophomores that have been working really hard the last couple of weeks. Hopefully we can fill that fourth spot make our team a little bit dangerous this year.”
The team is trying to making the most of what they can get done in practice. “For the new kids it’s just ball contact.” Coach Rice says, “We were able to do a few things inside with them and work and get better. With the older girls it’s getting out and working situationally and working around the course.”
The Lady Dawgs start the season Monday at home against Tri-Center. After their opener they won’t have another competition until April 12th at Logan-Magnolia. “It’s a good schedule to have a young team. I can see what we need to work on from that first meet and make some adjustments and really focus in for the next six or seven practices.”
