(Greenfield) The Nodaway Valley/O-M golfers have an increase in participation this spring.
The girls golf roster has grown to five members. “Getting a few more is pretty exciting.” Head coach Joel Klobnak says Bella Hogan, Lindsey Davis, and Delaney Blomme are joining the squad. “I don’t think there is much experience there, however they are all athletes in many other sports. Their names have been around so I think they are going to be quick learners. I’m excited to see what they’ve got. We have returners Ashlyn Gutierrez and Allie Herr. Ashlyn Gutierrez made tremendous leaps last year dropping over 20 strokes from day one. Allie Herr was right behind her.”
Coach Klobnak say the key to growing the roster was bringing in Julie Hartman to the coaching staff. “I’ve been working real hard trying to get a female coach that I knew would bring more girls on to the team and that’s exactly what it did. Julie Hartman is joining us this year and I think that’s going to be a huge advantage for the ladies. She can get hands on and work with them and correct their swings.”
Matthew Weber and Kaden Herr are the top two returners on the boys team. “I’m excited. I’m hoping they can drop a few more strokes and maybe make it to state.”
Landon Klobnak, Jack Jensen, and Zach Gebbie are all back from last year as well with Chase Walker being a newcomer from Orient-Macksburg. Coach Klobnak on the goals for both groups. “Instilling the love of golf. I’m really trying to get this program back up and growing. We are up to 17 or 18 this year so we are definitely getting interest. I’m trying to keep that. I want the idea that golf is fun, it’s enjoyable, and it’s something you can use down the road.”
The Wolverine boys start the season on Monday, April 4th at Griswold.
