(Des Moines) The Iowa House last week passed a bill revising some of the foster care language.
Iowa House District 21 Representative Tom Moore says House File 2507 comes from the Department of Human Services to make changes to Iowa Code Chapter 232 based on the Federal Family First Act.
Moore said this allows for relatives and fictive kin to petition the court to be a party to a proceeding. It requires family interactions to continue unless there is a finding that those interactions would be detriment to the child. It also requires the court to order ongoing contact between siblings following a termination of parental rights, unless visitation is not in the best interest of each sibling.
