(Griswold) Rachel Larsen takes the helm for the Griswold girls track team as head coach this season.
The former Tiger standout’s goal is to make things fun so they can get more people involved. “Our main goals for practice this year were just to make it fun for the girls. I had a meeting preseason and told them that I want to make practice the best part of their day. We’ve lacked a lot of participation in the past so my goal as a coach every year is to get more girls out and keep growing our team. We are really working on going back to the basics. Working on running form and mechanics. Just taking a step back before we can take a big step forward. The girls have been working really hard in strength and conditioning all year so they came in and I was super surprised. They are so strong, they’ve been working hard, and have a good work ethic so it’s been fun.”
She’s excited about the group she has to work with. “I have a lot of talent, a lot of girls coming back and also a lot of new girls coming in. I actually have 8 freshmen that have come in this year so I’m excited about that and I think that will help our depth out. There’s a lot of girls that could have a lot of success that are working very hard. A wide variety of talent. I have a group of mid-distance girls, sprinters, hurdles, and we have some returning success in throwing. I’m excited for the season.”
Griswold opens the season March 29th at Bedford.
