Robert Eugene Kuster was born on June 10, 1927, in Persia, Iowa to Walter F. and Jean (Gibson) Kuster. He was born the second of four children. He attended rural grade school and then attended Persia High School and graduated in 1945. After graduation he farmed with his dad and brother until he was drafted into the Army in 1950 during the Korean War. After serving his country he returned to farming. Soon after he met Lillian Chalupa of Omaha, NE and they were married on April 12, 1957. They were married for 50 years. They are the parents of four daughters. In 1958 he purchased a 260-acre farm south of Persia where he continued to farm until his retirement.
He was a lifetime member of St. John’s Lutheran Church where he served on the church council for many years. He also was a member of the Persia American Legion.
He passed away on February 4, 2022, at Salem Lutheran Nursing Home in Elk Horn, Iowa attaining the age of 94 years, 7 months, and 25 days.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Lillian, brother Kenneth Kuster, infant son Robert E. Kuster Jr. and infant grandson Jeremy J. Thygesen. He is survived by daughters Cindy (Frank) Ward of Elkhorn, NE, Linda (Doug) Daringer of Harlan, IA, Sheila Carroll of Harlan, IA, and Terri (Craig) Daringer of Persia IA, 9 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, Sisters Mary Jean Barney of Logan, IA Beverly Nelson of Persia, IA, and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral Services will be Wednesday, February 9th at 11:00 AM at the St. John’s Lutheran Church in Persia. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at the Valley View Cemetery in Persia. The Pauley Jones Funeral Home in Harlan is in charge of arrangements.
