(Anita) CAM won a back and forth girls game with Audubon on Thursday, 58-55.
Eva Steffensen scored a game high 22 points in the win for the Cougars. There were two ties and four lead changes in the first quarter alone. Audubon broke a 12-all deadlock with a 6-2 stretch and led 18-14 after one.
CAM gained control in the 2nd quarter with an 11-0 spurt that turned a 24-19 deficit into a 30-24 lead. Audrey Jensen hit a 3-pointer for Audubon late in the half to snug things up to 30-27 at the break. The Wheelers hit 11 3’s on the night, seven of which were before halftime.
Jaci Christensen’s free-throws and Kate Tessman’s 3-pointers helped Audubon take the lead back in the 3rd quarter. A 7-2 stretch built the lead as big as four and they maintained a 42-40 cushion going into the 4th. Tessman led the team with 15 points. Christensen scored 10.
Mallory Behnken got on track for CAM in the 2nd half with some interior baskets and neither team led by more than three in the final frame. There were three lead changes in the 4th. CAM hung on despite struggling from the free-throw line. Behnken finished with 10 points.
CAM improves to 15-4 with the win. They’ll play Glidden-Ralston on Friday and Ar-We-Va next week before getting into tourney play. Audubon, which was without leading scorer Aleah Hermansen for much of the night, falls to 13-8. Hermansen left the game early in the 2nd quarter with an injury. She returned briefly in the 3rd quarter, but didn’t play at all in the 4th. The Wheelers close out the regular season against IKM-Manning on Tuesday.
