(Anita) CAM gets a shot to avenge one of their two regular season losses Tuesday night when the 8-2 Cougars meat 8-1 Woodbine in girls basketball.
CAM’s only setbacks this season have been to 3rd ranked Exira-EHK and #15 Woodbine. They dropped a 55-48 contest against the Tigers on December 2nd and are eager to even up the season series. “Yeah absolutely,” says head coach Joe Wollum. “We felt the first time up there like we beat ourselves more than Woodbine beat us. We shot the ball pretty poor that night and had 29 turnovers. Hoping to right the ship a little bit and get out and compete and shoot the ball a little bit better and take care of it.”
It was a loss that dropped coach Joe Wollum’s team out of the rankings. They trail Exira-EHK by two games and Woodbine by one game in the Rolling Valley Conference standings. “They are one of the few teams that play man-to-man. Mostly everybody else we play plays zone. We feel like our man sets can be pretty effective. They are athletic too and can shoot the ball. They are a good team. Don’t get me wrong about that and they did beat us the first time, but we are hoping we can come back and take care of business on our home court.”
Woodbine has scored at least 70 points in four of their last five games and are coming off of an 85-22 win against West Harrison on Friday. There’s a lot of motivation for the Cougars going into this one. “They are still ranked after their tough loss to Exira-EHK. They are ahead of us in the standings and we’d like to tie that up. It has some regional implications as well. We definitely want to have a little bit of revenge and get a win.”
CAM has won four straight games. Mallory Behnken is averaging 13.7 points, 7.1 rebounds, and 2.5 blocks per game while shooting 55% from the field. Eva Steffensen shoots 50.5% and is averaging 11.8 points per game.
