(Audubon) The Audubon girls basketball team has a record of five wins and three losses on the season.
The Wheelers started 5-1 before running into Underwood and Logan-Magnolia in their final two games before break. Coach Darren Miller points to a 64-51 decision over Central Decatur as his team’s best showing thus far. “We played well against Central Decatur. I thought that game at Wells Fargo we played really well. We shot the ball very well. I think we are still inconsistent when it comes to shooting it. Hopefully with time and confidence we can get players shooting better. I think defensively we’ve done ok with still a lot of room for improvement.”
During holiday break practices they’ll be working on getting in better shape. “The #1 thing for us is conditioning. We don’t have a lot of kids out and I thought the last couple of games before break we weren’t in very good condition. That’s going to be #1 is getting in shape because we have a gauntlet of games ahead of us.” The Wheelers have three games next week and four games the week after that. They resume action at Stanton on Tuesday, January 4th.
Another priority is offensive execution. Aleah Hermansen is averaging 17.7 points per game while Jaci Christensen posts 11.7 points and 10.1 rebounds per game. Others have stepped into larger roles this season. “Cheyenne Barber has done a great job. She’s starting for us and didn’t hardly get any varsity time last year. She plays defense and rebounds and does the garbage work. She’s not going to score a lot, but she’s done a good job fulfilling that role for us. Our guards between Kate Tessman, Audrey Jensen, Sienna Albertsen, and Madi Steckler–those four are growing.”
