(Omaha) Ryan Hawkins had 19 points, 11 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals Friday night as Creighton defeated #9 Villanova, 79-59.
The Bluejays improve to 9-3 overall and begin 1-0 in the Big East. Villanova grabbed a 21-20 lead with just over 7:00 left before the break, but Creighton closed the half on a 19-9 stretch to take the lead. The Wildcats closed within two points with under 9:00 to go in the 2nd half, but that was as close as they would come.
Hawkins was 6/14 from the field, 3/6 beyond the arc, and 4/4 at the line. He’s averaging 14.2 points and 7.2 rebounds per game on the season. Ryan Nembhard scored 14 points on Friday and Alex O’Connell added 12.
Creighton is scheduled to travel to DePaul on Monday.
