(Elk Horn) A 12-1 stretch in the 2nd quarter turned the game in Exira-EHK’s favor as the Spartan girls defeated CAM 64-48 in Elk Horn on Friday.
A Macy Emgarten put back with 4:25 left in the 2nd gave Exira-EHK the lead for good. The outscored the Cougars 14-6 in the 2nd after trailing for much of the 1st. Emgarten finished with 20 points, most of which came in the final two minutes of the third quarter. The senior drilled four straight three’s in rapid succession to help her team push the lead from seven points to 15. CAM had briefly trimmed the gap to 40-33, but fell behind 52-37 heading into the 4th.
Quinn Grubbs with 13 and Mollie Rasmussen with 12 joined Emgarten in double figures. Alisa Partridge added 9 and Shay Burmeister scored 7. Exira-EHK moves to 3-0 on the season with their 43rd straight regular season win. The home squad hit 18/26 free-throws in the win They’ll be in action against IKM-Manning on Saturday.
CAM was led by Mallory Behnken with 11 points. The senior post player’s minutes were limited with foul trouble. Reese Snyder scored 10 while Kiera Nichols and Eva Steffensen each had 7. Four different players hit a 3-pointer for CAM which led 7-2 in the early going and didn’t trail in the game until the middle stages of the 2nd quarter. They move to 4-2 on the year ahead of a home date with West Harrison on Tuesday.
