(Anita) The CAM boys basketball team travels to Exira-EHK Friday night. The game will air on KSOM.
The Cougars are playing well under first year head coach Ian Hunt at 4-0 on the season. “Things have been going really well. We haven’t had a ton of practice with all the guys, but our kids have come in and responded well and we’ve had a nice start to the season.”
Winning a state championship in football led to a late start to basketball season, but it hasn’t slowed them down. “Our kids just came in with a good attitude right away and they’ve bought in. They are playing a good brand of basketball and are sharing the ball. It’s worked out well so far. The kids have done a good job to come in ready and prepared. The boys down the stretch have been much more calm. They’ve picked each other up. All the credit goes to the boys the way they’ve prepared and they’ve come in and that’s why they are champions.”
Hunt says their biggest strength has been getting a lot of people involved on offense. He’s complimentary of Exira-EHK and coach Doug Newton. “Coach Newton always gets those guys coached up. They run a lot of good sets, they are always prepared to play, and they always protect the ball. They have a lot of young talented kids so we are going to have to play solid defense and get on them early.”
CAM hasn’t lost a regular season contest in a boys team sport since July 6th. Between baseball, football, and basketball they’ve won 21 of their last 22 sporting events.
Colby Rich is averaging 16 points and 7.8 rebounds per game. Sam Foreman averages 13 point and 12.3 rebounds per game. Seth Hensley and Lane Spieker each have double figure scoring averages as well. Foreman and Spieker are both shooting 60% from the field.
