(Elk Horn) Exira-EHK hasn’t lost a girls basketball game in the Rolling Valley Conference since January 25th, 2019. The 3rd ranked Spartans streak of 37 straight conference victories has the potential to be put the to test Friday night when they host #14 CAM.
We’ll have the game on KSOM from Elk Horn. There’s little doubt this will be Exira-EHK’s toughest opponent so far this year. “The thing that sticks out to me right away would be the gals that are on the interior.” Exira-EHK coach Tom Petersen says, “Mallory Behnken has been doing a tremendous job in there. She’s a force on the offensive boards. Eva Steffensen is able to go inside and outside and they have great shooters.”
Exira-EHK’s defense has been strong, allowing just 16.6 points per game. They’ll need to be on the ‘A’ game against CAM. “You’re going to have to contest every shot. The #1 thing I would look at is finishing possessions. We’ve been doing ok with that.” He says, “They are well balanced and have a lot of kids that can do a lot of good things. It’s going to be a tremendous challenge for our kids.”
The Spartan offense has held their own with an average of 69 points per game. Petersen says they’ve been aggressive. “We want to continue to attack. It’s one of the things I’ve liked so far the year is the way our kids are not settling as much as they have in the past and that’s something we want to make sure we try to do.”
Macy Emgarten leads the way at 17.3 points per contest while Shay Burmeister, Quinn Grubbs, and Mollie Rasussen all average in double figures as well. Grubbs is 4th best in Class 1A with 7.7 steals per game.
Pregame coverage starts at 5:45 with a 6:00 tip on KSOM.
