Barbara Lou Schaaf, the daughter of Bernard and Dorothy (Snyder) Askey, was born April 20, 1940, in Anita, IA. She died Sunday, November 21, 2021, at the Griswold Rehabilitation and Health Care Center, at the age of 81 years, 7 months, and 1 day.
Barb attended school at Elliott, graduating from Elliott High School with the class of 1957. On August 7, 1960, she was united in marriage to Lyle William Schaaf at the Griswold Central Church of Christ. They moved to Elliott in 1965, where they owned the Elliott Café and the Laundry Mat. They sold the café in 1971. Barb worked as a waitress for several different cafes before going to work for the Red Oak Greenhouse. She worked at the Red Oak Greenhouse until her retirement.
Barb enjoyed reading and spending time with her family.
Barb is preceded in death by her husband Lyle on May 13, 2004; her parents; her brother Jerry; her daughter-in-law De Anne; and her sisters, Jo Ann and Judy.
She is survived by her son Jeff Schaaf of Griswold, IA; her grandsons, Colton Schaaf of Bedford, IA, and Caleb Schaaf of Griswold, IA; her sister-in-law, Sylvia Schaaf of Atlantic, IA; and her brother-in-law Lynn Schaaf and his wife Patricia of Griswold, IA; Barb is also survived by many other relatives and friends.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, November 29, 2021, at 1:30 PM, at the Griswold Central Church of Christ. Interment will be in Hillside Cemetery at Elliott. A visitation with the family will be on Sunday, November 28, 2021, from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM, at the Griswold Central Church of Christ. Rieken Duhn Funeral Home in Griswold is assisting the family.
