(Avoca) AHSTW has a stout non-district test in Week 7. The Vikings will oppose 5-1 Logan-Magnolia.
Coach GG Harris like the way this one falls on the calendar. They get a playoff team late in the regular season with little to no repercussions if they fall short. “You betcha. I mean this is the type of year where you want to be playing your best football and you want to be playing against the best competition. Logan-Magnolia is super well coached. They do what they do and they do it well. We are excited for the matchup to see the growth that we’ve made.”
Harris is concerned about the Panthers rushing attack which will keep coming at you to try and wear down opposing defenses. “1st and 10, 2nd and 6, 3rd and 3, first down. They’ll do that for 12 minutes per quarter if you allow them to. Three yards can turn into 40 real quick if you don’t play assignment football.”
Between Earlham, SW Valley and others, AHSTW had faced a lot of run dominant teams this year. “Our guys have gotten better at responding. The first couple of weeks were maybe not the greatest, but each week we get a little bit better and a little bit tougher in the box.” Guys like Quintin Nissen, Ethan Gubbels, Logan Heller, Jaicob Madsen, and Henry Lund have held tough at the point of attack. “The run support has really grown and it’s going to be put to the test.”
AHSTW’s offense has some playmakers and they hope to exploit some matchups. “When the ball is our hands we need to string together some nice drives. We have to be able to execute and be efficient.”
After a 1-3 start, AHSTW has won back-to-back games. They’ve outscored their opponents 91-18 the last two weeks.
