(Atlantic) This week, the Cass County Board of Supervisors, the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, and the County Health Department signed a renewal to the 28E agreement on well permits.
Cass County Supervisor Chairman Steve Baier says the agreement covers wells used for drinking purposes for all wells, and however, geothermal wells are the exception. “I think where this agreement affects people the most is when acreages with existing wells are sold,” said Baier. “The acreage buyer will know the water quality of the permitted well from inspections conducted when the well went into production.”
The 28E agreement, first signed in 2003, creates uniform guidelines county by county across the state.
