(Oakland) In Week 6 the Riverside football team will look to do something they haven’t done yet this year. The Bulldogs will be hoping to bounce back from a loss.
Riverside suffered their first defeat of the year last week in the form of a 47-12 score against AHSTW. Here’s head coach Darrell Frain. “Avoca came out and put it to us. I’ll take 100% of the blame. As a coach I didn’t have us prepared for what Avoca was bringing and we didn’t handle it very well. We got beat in every aspect of the game. We have to move on quickly and get things ready to go so we are ready for this Friday and the rest of the season.”
Frain is hoping his team learns from this experience. “That’s the approach we are going to take. Hopefully we become hungry and practice harder and play harder and hopefully it’ll lead to more success for us in the next three weeks.”
Coach Frain on what his team will be focusing on in practice this week ahead of their matchup with 1-4 Missouri Valley. “Just practicing hard. I know we have to improve our special teams. We got beat in every aspect there. Other than that just keep doing the little things and practicing hard. If we don’t do that we aren’t going to beat any good teams and Avoca really proved that to us.”
Frain is confident his team will respond well to their first defeat of the year. “Even in the discussion after the ball game I think they understood what happened and what we need to do. Morning weights on Monday went well. Everyone came and worked their butts off. I like where we are going, we just have to keep getting better.”
Despite a loss last week the offensive line play has been perhaps a pleasant surprise. They’ve been playing “Pretty well. We had some mess ups on Friday night and maybe took a step backwards, but I feel comfortable with where they are at. We are going to live with them through the whole season and they are fighting hard.”
This is a non-district game against the Big Reds, but an important matchup in the sense of re-grouping and getting headed back in the right direction.
