(Anita) A pair of top five football teams in the state battle it out on Friday night. KSOM will have the play-by-play of CAM’s Week 5 tilt at Audubon.
CAM coach Barry Bower admits they’ve been aware of what week in the schedule the Audubon game was looming. “It has always been on our minds. To be honest with you I think it has been on everybody’s mind. We understand that we had to take care of business before we got to this point and we did. I think now is the time to focus on Audubon. It’s always been in the back of our mind, I don’t know if it’s been a date that’s been circled.”
The Cougars have posted an average margin of victory of 51.75 points per game. Coach Bower says they area taking care of the little things. “One of the things we’ve been trying to instill in these kid’s minds is if you do the little things great, then that’s what’s going to make the big things achievable. That’s what we’ve been harping ever since camp is to do those fine little details and that’s what I’ve been most impressed about.”
Bower says in any big game turnovers, field position, and special teams will be huge. “Turnovers are going to be huge, field position is going to be huge. Just doing things correctly is going to be huge. Special teams are going to be huge. All those little fine details. People want to talk about Gavin Smith and Lane Spieker, but this game is more than just those two, it’s the whole ball game. If you’re going win a game like this you’ve got to take care of those details.”
Both teams are likely to get their first true test of the season. “One of the things we’ve been talking to our team about is adversity. How are we going to respond? What happens if you fall behind? What happens if you have a turnover late in the ball game? How are you going to respond to that? It’s natural that Audubon has been in these ball games and we’ve been in big games.”
The In the Huddle show will set the table for this one, beginning at 5:15 p.m. The game will kick off at 7:00. You can catch it on the radio at 96.5 FM and with a video stream at WesternIowaToday.com
