(Anita) CAM downed Woodbine 76-20 last Friday night and now meets West Harrison this week.
Coach Barry Bower says the squad executed very well offensively in Week 2, but will pinpoint some things to work on such as footwork. “They understand that it will never ever be a prefect game, but they played hard. They executed in some areas that we had worked on in the last week and did a nice job of it. We’ve got some players that are playing for the very first time and they got better from Week 1 to Week 2 and hopefully they’ll get better from Week 2 to Week 3 and so on and so forth. We are happy with their progress, but we know that we’ve still got work to do.”
Sophomore linebackers Austin Williams and Jack Follmann are two of those new faces that are emerging. Last time out Jack Follmann had seven solo and 9.5 total tackles. Williams has 11.5 tackles in two games. Each has recovered a fumble this season. “First and foremost I look at a kid like Austin Williams that really stepped up his game from Week 1 to Week 2. You look at Jack Follmann who is our middle linebacker and he did a nice job calling the defense and he’s only a sophomore. Then his brother Ethan Follmann who is a little bit of a quarterback for us and hybrid player that has done a really good job for us running the offense when we have Lane Spieker in some different spots. Sam Foreman has stepped up and Corbin Peach.”
West Harrison was a 58-6 winner in Week 1 against Siouxland Christian before losing a back and for the battle in the final seconds to Exira-EHK last week. “They do a very, very nice job I mean jiminy Christmas Mason McIntosh is only a sophomore and he’s passed for 333 yards and then you have guys like Gabe Gilgen who has rushed for 151 and Walker Rife. They present you some problems on the edge and on the interior. Coleson Evans is a 6’5″ receiver who can do some damage and then his brother I think it is Sage Evans who is a wonderful offensive lineman and linebacker. They present a lot of problems.”
Two weeks into the season CAM ranks 2nd in yards per carry, 4th in the state in rushing touchdowns, 4th in rushing yards, and 5th in solo tackles.
