(Griswold) Griswold opens the 2021 football season at home against Exira-EHK.
Griswold coach Chase Wallace weighs in on the matchup with the Spartans. “We are anticipating a tough, hard-fought game. Trey Petersen really did it all for them last year so we expect them to move him all over and keep us guessing. They have some good size coming back. They have some good speed on the outside. We have to be ready all across the board.”
He says his team will have to be ready for multiple formations the Spartans will run on offense. They are confident in how they stack up at the line of scrimmage. “Our O-line should outweigh them, which doesn’t always mean anything as far as quickness goes, but we should have the weight advantage so hopefully we can take advantage of that.”
The Tigers have improved in number of areas since last year and are focused on finishing plays. “Knowing the playbook and knowing our assignments. Now that we know all the plays we can focus on completing plays. Our focus this week has been high effort at all times and not letting up.”
Griswold returns running back Cale Swain who rushed for 214 yards and posted 233 receiving yards last year. “He can run, he can catch, if we wanted to I’m sure we could put him at quarterback and he could throw. He just has a natural athletic ability that’s really impressive. Another thing I’m impressed with this year about Cale is his vocal leadership. He’s really stepped up in that area, kind of leading the younger guys and filling that void of the seniors we lost last year.”
Coach Wallace say he’s been impressed with the freshman class in their ability to learn from mistakes and move on.
