(Elk Horn) Lane Spieker hit three homers and drove in seven runs in a 16-0 CAM baseball win against Exira-EHK on Wednesday. The Cougars opened things up with a 10-run 6th inning.
Spieker also pitched the shutout allowing just one hit. He struck out 13 batters to help him work around two walks and three hit batters. Exira-EHK stranded six runners on the night including two in the 2nd and three in the 3rd. The junior right hander faced just nine batters over the final three innings. Trey Petersen tallied the only hit for Exira-EHK.
CAM’s Colby Rich entered the game as Class 1A’s home run leader with 9. That distinction now belongs to Spieker with homers 9, 10, and 11 on Wednesday. He’s driven in 45 runs and scored 51 times. Spieker blasted a solo shot down the left field line in the 3rd and then hit two out of the park in the 6th inning. He also had a bases loaded walk that brought in a run. Colby Rich scored three runs, finishing with a double, a single, and one walk. Joe Kauffman posted two hits and scored twice. Cade Ticknor left the yard with a two-run shot in the 6th. Ethan Follmann and Brody Paulsen each had two hits.
CAM, which had their nine game win streak snapped by Atlantic on Tuesday, has scored in double figures in 9 of their last 11 games. They improve to 20-4. Exira-EHK, which had won three straight conference contests, falls to 9-12.
