(Greenfield) The Nodaway Valley softball team has a mark of 6-6 through their first dozen games. They were the Murray Tournament champions this past weekend with wins over Seymour, Murray, and Melcher Dallas.
They Wolverines have remained competitive despite having only one senior. Coach Abbey Queck points out it has been a rebuilding year after graduating four starters. “It’s just great to see young girls stepping up into those roles. We have a lot of girls that didn’t play a lot of varsity last year.” Queck says, “A lot of learning is going on. It’s just great to see how much we’ve improved even since the first game.”
Queck comments on some of the players that have stepped up. “Maddax DeVault definitely at shortstop. She’s got a great bat and a great glove on the infield. Whitney Lamb has done a very nice job in the circle. She came in against Mount Ayr and did a phenomenal job keeping them on their toes. Lindsey Davis behind the plate has done a very, very good job. She’s just a freshman back there and she’s stepped up tremendously. She’s done a very good job in the lineup as well.”
The 6-6 Wolverines go up against Earlham on Wednesday night and host unbeaten Griswold on Thursday. We’ll have the Griswold vs Nodaway Valley matchup for you on 96.5 FM KSOM.
