(Anita) As part of the Iowa DNR’s Free Fishing Weekend, the Friends Group will welcome kids to Lake Anita.
Registration will take place near the south boat ramp. Fisheries Biologist Bryan Hayes will kick off the event at 10:00 a.m. “I will talk to the kid about fishing and the types of fish they may encounter. Then we send the kids off to fish for a while. The Friends Group provides bait. Bring your tackle, but there should be bait and people walking around to help you and give you advice or bait your hook and take fish off your hook if you need help there.”
Anglers can expect some activity as the Bluegills are spawning. “Bluegills are on their beds. They are probably the most likely fish you’ll catch if you put a worm out there under a bobber or cast some small jigs. The water temperatures past 70 degrees. 72 degrees is what I saw the other day at Meadow Lake so it’s time for bluegills to spawn.”
Hayes says the event at Lake Anita on Saturday morning is well known for having plenty of prizes for kids.
