(Atlantic) The Atlantic Personnel & Finance Committee discussed Elections at their meeting Wednesday evening.
Atlantic City Administrator John Lund says Atlantic currently has a “plurality-takes-all” system. One only needs to get the most votes on the first and only ballot to win, so less than 50.01% of the vote is required to become the Mayor or member of the Council or Park Board. Lund says Iowa allows for two types of elections.
The board held a discussion on what they felt was the best way to whittle down the candidates.
The recommendation will be made to the City Council. City Clerk Barb Barrick said at this point the City will remain on the “plurality” system until an ordinance is passed.
