Norma Jean Taylor, the daughter of Ferdinand “Ferd” and Alvina (Jipp) Rohwer, was born May 9, 1933, in Elkhorn, NE. She was one of two children.
Norma received her education at Elkhorn Public Schools, graduating from Elkhorn High School with the class of 1951. After graduating, Norma worked for Muthual of Omaha for a short time. On March 9, 1952, Norma was united in marriage to John Phillip Taylor in Elkhorn, NE. Three children were born to this union: Rickie Lynn, Barbara Lee, and Jana Kristine. Norma and John lived several different places before settling on their farm west of Oakland. They lived on the farm until 1974, when they moved into Oakland. Norma lived at home until the time of her death.
Norma was a member of the Oakland United Methodist Church. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, reading, baking, and spending time with her family.
Norma died May 9, 2021, at the Mercy Hospital in Council Bluffs, IA. She was 88 years old.
She was preceded in death by her husband John on June 19, 2010; her parents; her grandparents; and her granddaughters Skye and Kyra.
Those left to mourn her passing are: her son Rickie Taylor and wife Shirley of Urbandale, IA; her daughters, Barbara Schorsch and husband Kim of Oakland, IA, and Jana Taylor and husband Tim of Woodbine, IA; her grandchildren: Katie Stevenson and husband Seth and Kristine Katz and husband Russell, all of Ankeny, IA, and Payton and John Taylor of Woodbine, IA; her great grandchildren: Carmen Anderson, Bennett and Brody Stevenson, and Logan Katz; her brother Lloyd Rohwer of Elkhorn, NE; and a host of other family and friends.
Funeral services will be on Thursday, May 13, 2021, at 11:00 AM, at the Oakland United Methodist Church. Visitation with the family will take place one hour prior to the funeral. Interment will be in the Oaklawn Cemetery. Rieken Funeral Home in Oakland is assisting the family with arrangements.
