(Oakland) The Sprint Medley Relay and 4X100 will have a good chance to be state track qualifiers for the Riverside girls.
The Lady Dawgs compete Thursday at West Harrison. Head coach Jared Hoffman on his 4X1 and Sprint Med, “We’ve had a good team that’s been running the sprint medley all year. We are still in the top ten on time and so we are looking forward to that really well. Our 4X100 is another one too that we are looking forward to throwing down a good time. They ran a season best at conference.”
The quartet includes Veronica Andrusyshyn, Emma Gordon, Izzy Bluml, and Lydia Erickson. None of them are seniors and three are underclassmen. Hoffman knew even before the season started that this group could flourish. “It started a couple of years ago when they were in 7th and 8th grade. They ran well in middle school and we were pretty excited to get them up here in high school. It’s been good momentum for us.”
The Lady Dawgs enter the State Qualifying Meet in Mondamin with the big picture in mind. “We’ve been looking at what can give us the best shot of not only getting to state, but medaling at state. That’s been a goal for them from the beginning of the year.”
Hoffman lists West Monona, Tri-Center, and Logan-Magnolia as a few of the other teams with some pretty good talent in the field at West Harrison. The State Qualifying Meets start at 4:00 p.m. for all classes on Thursday.
