(Avoca) The AHSTW girls track program has put some high end talent on the track in recent years and this season should be no exception.
The Lady Vikes have a lot of impressive athletes just in their senior class alone. Here’s head coach Traye Pelzer. “Cora Comer is going to be back for her senior year, Holly Hoepner as well as far as the sprinters are concerned. We have a really strong distance crew as well with Kailey Jones, Chloe Falkena and Jade Draman. I’m pretty excited with the senior leadership that we have. We have some really talented underclassmen to back them up as well. It’s looking to be a good year.”
Comer missed her sophomore season with an injury and everyone missed last season due to the pandemic, but as a freshman Comer was among the elite sprinters in the state. “I think she brings just that leadership of somebody on the team that knows what it’s like to get to the blue oval and run there at a high level. Everyone coming back is still getting back into track shape right now, but she’s looking strong and I’m definitely excited to have her.”
Practices for all teams started later this year than usual with a March 1st beginning date. “A lot of speed work and trying to get people back into track shape after missing last year. Everyone will be dealing with that. A lot of hurdle work is going into it as well. I’m excited for some low hurdling this year.”
