(Griswold) The Griswold girls golf team will feature a lot of experience this spring while the Tiger boys have several newcomers.
Five seniors lead the way for coach Jason Reynolds on his girls squad. Four of them have played at the varsity level since they were freshmen. “Jenna Reynolds, Mikala Pelzer, Britney Nelson, and Brooke Berg have spent quite a bit of time in the varsity lineup for us. We have another senior in Erin Kelly. She’s fairly new to golf, but it’s good to see her out there.”
Reynolds looks for all that experience to lead to some confidence. “It’ll be nice to get out there. The girls were pretty disappointed last year when things were cancelled, but luckily it was their junior year and they have one more year they can finish it out.”
The boys team is a completely different story. “Very new, very young. Caleb Oakleaf would be the only player that has any varsity experience. We have a number of young ones that are coming out and we have Kamron Brownlee, Jayden Amend, Tate Steinhoff, and Brayden Stirek. All those kids are pretty athletic so I’m fairly certain they’ll be able to pick up the game quickly and help us out down the road.”
As Reynolds views it, no matter what happens this year, just being able to compete will be a victory. “It’s going to be good for the kids to get back out there and get beyond this COVID a little bit and have a season. That’s a win for us already.”
Reynolds admits there will be some rust to knock off as a lot of the players haven’t played in over a year.
