(Oakland) One competition is already in the books for the Riverside girls track team.
In some regards the Lady Dawgs have a step up on their competition after competing at the Dickinson Relays in Cedar Falls March 8th. Head Coach Jared Hoffman says, “I think it was just a real good actual learning experience for them. With not having a season last year a lot of these freshmen and sophomores haven’t even been in a high school meet. Getting that experience really helped them and plus it kind of knocked the rust of our juniors and seniors wheels a little bit to get the season going.”
One of the biggest bright spots was Veronica Andrusyshyn making the finals in the 60 Meter Hurdles at a meet that saw a lot of competition from Class 4A and 5A schools. “She did real well. She made finals in all classes for the 60 Meter Hurdles so that was kind of impressive. Plus we had some real good efforts on our relays and a couple of other individual events so it was real good to see.”
The Lady Dawgs have some weapons this year. “Izzy Bluml is a returning state qualifier for us and she’s a junior that has worked really hard. We have a good group of seniors. We have four seniors that are leading the way with Kya Hackett, Ella Hensley, Cailee Manzer, and Katie Messerschmidt. We’re pretty young for the most part. We have a big group of sophomores and freshmen that are excited to get to work. For these first couple of weeks they’ve really been working hard so I’m pretty excited about that.”
Riverside will head to another indoor meet this Friday when they travel to Concordia. Only a limited number of entries will be allowed to compete.
