(Atlantic) Nodaway Valley held leads of 9-0 and 20-2 in the first quarter on their way to a Regional Final win over AHSTW on Wednesday night in Atlantic. The Wolverines are state tourney bound for the first time in their history after a wire-to-wire 55-33 victory.
Maddax DeVault scored 23 points and Lindsey Davis added 16, but it was the defense that stood out. AHSTW was held scoreless for the first 4:10 of the first quarter and the first 5:12 of the 2nd quarter. The Wolverines put a strong defensive emphasis on AHSTW’s top three scorers and it worked out well. 4th rated Nodaway Valley led 22-4 at the end of the first and 31-11 at halftime. AHSTW was never closer than within fifteen points in the 2nd half.
Lexi Shike added seven points, Corinne Bond added four along with a huge night on the boards, Macy Kuhns scored three, and Terrin Gettler two. AHSTW was led by Claire Denning’s 16 points, Kailey Jones added seven, Claire Harris three, Ellie Peterson three, Delaney Goshhorn two, and Julia Kock two.
The Lady Vikes bow out at at 17-7. Nodaway Valley avenges a postseason loss from last year and takes a 23-0 record to the state tourney.
