(Guthrie Center) Clarion-Goldfield-Dows came away with another team title from ACGC’s home wrestling tournament. C-G-D won the Charger Invitational on Saturday by a 53 point cushion over Woodward-Granger. SE Valley, Van Meter/Earlham, and Riverside rounded out the top five squads in a 16 team field.
The Bulldogs had Jace Rose win the 120 pound title. The junior is 30-1 after topping a fellow ranked opponent, Nodaway Valley’s Elliot Cooney in the finals. Eddie Vlcek moved to 195 pounds and made the finals. He settled for a runner-up finish with an 8-5 loss to Coon Rapids-Bayard’s Kale Pevestorf. John Schroder posted a 3rd place finish at 113. He’s 30-5 on the season. Nolan Moore, in a strong 138 pound weight class, also earned a 3rd place spot. Kaiden Hendricks was 6th at 182, Nathan Messerschmidt 6th at 285, and Dalton Smith placed 8th at 106.
ACGC freshman 106 pounder Tegan Slaybaugh won an individual championship in front of the home crowd. He posted a pin and two major decisions to improve to 34-6. Cale Rowley was the 152 pound runner-up. Rowley pinned his way into the finals and is 27-7 on the season. Seth Danker placed 4th at 138. Danker lost a 13-8 decision to Reed Abbas, of Clarion-Goldfield-Dows, in the semis and then injury defaulted in the 3rd place match. Cristian Nolte earned a 5th place finish at 170, Dawson Muller placed 7th at 145, and Cayden Jensen was 7th at 160.
Nodaway Valley’s day was highlighted by Elliot Cooney and Jevin Christensen reaching the finals at 120 and 145, respectively. Each finished as a runner-up. Carmine Shaw won a pair of matches on the day and came in 4th at 152. Ben Breheny (126) and Jaxon Christensen (138) each placed 5th.
