(Corning) Creston/O-M held off a strong push from Winterset on the final day of the John Harris Wrestling Tournament to earn a team title. Jackson Kinsella at 195 was the lone champ for the Panthers while four others finished as a runner-up.
Winterset placed second, just four points back in the team scoring. Afterwards, Creston/O-M coach Cody Downing said, “I’m just glad we had enough cushion to get it done.” Downing added, “We were able to get bonus points in a few places and got Kaden (Bolton) to the finals and Jackson (Kinsella) got bonus points in the finals. We had just enough to get it done, but we have a lot of work to do.”
Champions on the final day of the tournament included Winterset’s Tyler Brown at 152, Panorama’s Wyatt Appleseth at 160, MVAOCOU’s Kolby Scott at 170, Brecken Freeberg of Tri-Center won the 182 pound title, Jackson Kinsella won for Creston at 195, Clarinda’s Crew Howard at 220, and Winterset had the heavyweight champ with Dugan Tolley.
Local highlights on the second day saw Riverside place two in the top five with Kaiden Hendricks 3rd at 182 and Eddie Vlcek 5th at 220. Nodaway Valley got a strong tourney from Jevin Christensen with a 3rd place finish at 152. Cale Rowley and Cristian Nolte each placed 4th for ACGC. Atlantic/CAM’s Jarrett Armstrong was 3rd at 160 and Devin McKay placed 6th at 220. Griswold had Sam Olson place 5th at 195.
