(Anita) The CAM girls basketball team is doing their best to make a three game losing streak a distant memory.
The Cougars defeated ACGC 62-40 Thursday night at home to improve to 9-3 on the season. Ten players scored for coach Joe Wollum’s squad. Mallory Behnken had a team best 10 points followed by Zoey Baylor and Meredith Rich each with 9. Naomi Grubbs notched 7 points with 6 each for Eva Steffensen and Molly Venteicher. “The way our girls share the basketball is so much fun to watch.” Wollum says, “They are a fun group to be around.” Zoey Baylor led the team in rebounds with 7. Marissa Spieker and Eva Steffensen each had five assists. Molly Venteicher took two charges. Spieker and Meredith Rich each had five steals.
CAM played well defensively and jumped out to an early 21-7 lead. They scored the final 12 points of the 1st quarter to open up a double digit lead. “We played our best game of the year defensively tonight. I’m very proud of the girls. We’ve been in a little funk and they were able to get out of it tonight. It all starts on the defensive end.”
ACGC was led in scoring by Alaina Bunde and Kylie Young each with 9 points. EmmKay McClain scored 8. The Chargers cut a 25 point deficit to 13 in the 4th quarter, but had too big of a mountain to climb. They move to 9-5 on the season.
