(Greenfield) Everything is clicking for the Nodaway Valley girls basketball program. The 11-0 Wolverines are in action Tuesday night at SW Valley.
We’ll have the game on KSOM. Nodaway Valley is coming off of what many would consider their biggest win of the year. The Wolverines, 5th ranked in Class 2A, beat Class 3A #10 Panorama by 13 points on Saturday. “It was a huge win for our kids and a huge win for our program. It was one of those monkeys on our back. Before Saturday we were 0-8 all time against them.”
Coach Brian Eisbach’s squad is eyeing big goals after that confidence boosting win against the Panthers. “We mentioned that Nodaway Valley girls basketball has never been to state and never beat Panorama so maybe they are synonymous. Maybe we have to do one to get the other.”
Coach Eisbach says Maddax DeVault and Corinne Bond were two of the many players that stepped up defensively on Saturday especially when Macy Kuhns was in foul trouble. “Maddax DeVault stepped up and did some things on defense we normally do not ask her today. Corinne Bond played out of her mind she had five blocks. We had great help defense and had them struggling to find good shots.”
They held their opponent’s top scorer to 21% shooting. Tuesday night they’ll face a SW Valley squad that is 2-10. “They are a vastly improved team. They just beat Wayne which was a big win for their program. They are very athletic.”
Nodaway Valley has gone from a team that’s capable of winning a lot of big games to a team that expects to win when the lights are shining bright. “That is the biggest difference between last year’s team and this year’s team and that’s nothing against last year we had a great season and tied a school record for wins.”
Coach Eisbach says the team has bought into playing for each other, they are having fun, and are becoming more confident. “That’s what we are the most proud of. It’s not that we are 11-0 or ranked #5 in 2A, it’s that these kids have finally bought in and believed in themselves and each other.”
Pregame coverage will hit the air at approximately 5:50 p.m. Tuesday night.
