(Boone) While the Iowa High School Sports Networks is reporting a major schedule change to the state wrestling tournament, the official governing body of high school sports says any changes are not yet set in stone.
In an e-mail to media members, IHSAA Communications Director Chris Cuellar states, “Due to COVID-19 related safety and capacity considerations, the IHSAA’s Board of Control will vote to determine the schedule and format of the State Traditional Tournament and State Dual Team Tournament at their January 21 meeting. The tournaments are currently scheduled for February 17-20 at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines.”
Any tournament updates will be announced with member schools and publicly immediately following that board meeting. The IHSAA has not yet approved or announced any COVID-19 related changes to wrestling’s 2021 state tournaments or postseason. Conflicting information or scheduling should be considered unofficial.
On Tuesday morning the Iowa High School Sports Network posted a graphic detailing each class competing on a separate day. According to the IHSSN the Class 1A state tournament will be on Wednesday, February 17th, Class 2A on Thursday, February 18th, and 3A on Friday, February 19th with state duals on Saturday, February 20th.
