(Audubon) The 3-7 Audubon boys basketball team will face one of their tougher road contests of the year when they travel to 10-1 AHSTW on Tuesday. The game will air on KSOM.
Audubon coach Coleman Mullenix wants to see his team come out and play hard against one of the Western Iowa Conference leaders. “They are obviously a great opponent. I know they are ranked really highly in 2A. We are up for a challenge. I just hope that we are prepared and ready to play and come out and give our best effort.”
Audubon took a 1-6 record into the holiday break, but have won back-to-back games. Coach Mullenix points to offense as a big difference. “Last week we beat Ar-We-Va and we were down 12 in the fourth quarter against them. To be honest that felt insurmountable for us with how we’d been not scoring this season. But we ended that game on a 17-4 run. Then we played Missouri Valley and were able to get out and run and get some easy baskets so that was encouraging.”
Coach Mullenix admits Raydden Grobe is really tough matchup and the emergence of Kyle Sternberg and Brayden Lund makes the Vikings all the more difficult to defend. “They are really good. It’ll be difficult and I don’t have any magic, but we are going to maintain our principle’s defensively and hope to put forth our best effort.”
We’ll have both games of the doubleheader on the air. The girls game tips at 6:00 and the boys game will be at approximately 7:30. Carson Bauer has emerged as a key scoring option for Audubon and is averaging 10.5 points per game.
