(Moun Ayr) Martensdale-St. Marys had two champions and three runners-up among their ten wrestlers at the Pride of Iowa Conference Tournament on Friday. The Blue Devils scored two more points than Bedford/Lenox while SE Warren/Melcher-Dallas and East Union were in the hunt.
Johnnie Casssady (152) and Cael Cassady (160) won titles for the winning team. Bedford/Lenox crowned four in the finals including champs Mizael Gomez (106), Dawson Marshall (220), and Devin Whipple (285).
Nodaway Valley finished sixth out of eight schools. Elliot Cooney won the 120 pound weight class and is now 20-1 on the season. Ben Breheny was the 126 pound runner-up with a 15-6 loss to East Union’s Jarryn Stephens in the finals. Another 2nd place finish came from Jaxon Christensen at 138. His finals match saw an 11-5 loss to SW Warren/Melcher Dallas wrestler Randy Jimenez. Caelen DeVault was 2nd at 170 with an 8-4 loss to Tanner Dierking (SE Warren/M-D) in the finals. Zackery Gebbie (3rd at 132) and Brandon Raasch (6th at 160) were the other place winners for the Wolverines.
