(Anita) CAM opposes Glidden-Ralston in volleyball Tuesday evening.
The Cougars are off to a strong beginning to the season with a record of record of 5-1. Last week they went 3-0 including sweeps of Audubon and Exira-EHK on Thursday. Head coach Jenna Maiers says, “In the very last game against Audubon we were down 20-24 and our girls just kind of turned something on and decided they weren’t going to lose that game. They fought back and won 26-24 and that kind of just made my entire night.”
The returning varsity players are excelling with the experience they have under their belt. “Marissa Spieker at libero played there last year and she’s really stepping up to take control of the back row. Taylor Bower was the setter last year and has a year under her belt. She’s just making really good choices. Our hitters, Mady McKee and Zoey Baylor, are just really putting the ball away when we need them too. It’s been a lot of fun to watch.”
The team’s only loss so far has been to Denison-Schleswig. Coach Maiers comments on what her team can continue to improve on. “I think we need to start using our middles a little bit more to open things back up for our outsides and our communication is still lacking sometimes. We are working on that and getting better everyday.”
Coach Maiers says if the team stays healthy they are capable of a lot of good things this year including a deeper postseason run than they saw in 2019.
