(Greenfield) The Nodaway Valley girls cross country team is coming off of their first state meet appearance in ten years.
The Wolverines bring back four of their top six runners from a team that placed 8th in Fort Dodge. They have a clear cut front runner and that’s senior Sophia Broers. “Sophia is looking really good. She hasn’t changed her work habits. She’s being recruited by Wartburg already and several other small colleges. Her workout habits are steady and always does the max. If we give them a choice for how many reps to do she’ll choose the most reps.”
Broers finished 14th in the state a year ago and coach Burmeister wouldn’t be surprised to see her jump into the top ten this season. The rest of the pack will be fairly balanced. “We have several girls, it depends on the night, that are looking really good. Erin Ford has really stepped up for us this year, Abigail Engels, Hope Kading, Lilly Day are all returning that were freshmen. Annika Nelson looked good the other night and hopefully there are a few more freshmen girls coming in.”
The Wolverines are scheduled to compete for the first time at West Central Valley on Thursday, September 3rd.
