(Boone) It’s the final day of our series evaluating the classification system from the Iowa High School Athletic Association.
If and when changes might be made remains to be seen, but there’s certainly a contingent out there that is ready to give something else a shot. Glidden-Ralston coach Cole Corson admits, “There’s never going to be a perfect system, but I believe at the same time if you use data and use numbers you can get a lot closer than what we are right now and I think that’s really what people want.”
Coach Corson believes if and when changes are ever made they’ll have to be continually monitored and possibly adjusted to see what works best.
Corson points out social media has allowed for several people’s take on the matter to be shared. “More and more people are starting to recognize it or acknowledge it. I tweeted out that five of the eight Class 1A state baseball qualifiers were private schools and in the matter of a day, 20,000 people saw it.”
IHSAA Executive Direcor Tom Keating points out states that have made changes haven’t always gotten the results they expected.
