(Audubon) Dry conditions have led to even higher safety concerns when shooting off fireworks this summer.
Tyler Thygesen, Chief of the Audubon Fire and Rescue, provides the following factors to take into consideration. “We’ve been due for some rain so the vegetation status is very dry. With the direction you are shooting make sure there’s no structures around. Be aware of the wind direction.”
He warns sparklers may seem like one of the safer 4th of July traditions, but they can be very dangerous. “They actually burn at about 1,200 degrees Fahrenheit which is pretty warm so make sure kids have parental supervision. Make sure there is a bucket of water for disposal of those so you don’t have anything hot getting put in the trash or anything of that nature.”
Fireworks can be shot off in the city of Audubon July 2nd-5th from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Fireworks in Audubon County are allowed between June 1st and July 8th from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
